While the Salsa Timberjack 20 and 24 may have been the first child-specific bikepacking bike, the 24″ Bombtrack Junior is the first, drop-bar gravel/bikepacking bike made for youngsters. This diminutive tyke-tourer is based on the 29″ Bombtrack Beyond, a popular dirt-touring platform originally released by the German bike manufacturer back in 2016. Like its parental rig, the Beyond Junior features semi-knobby tires, flared gravel handlebars, an upright geometry, and plenty of mounting provisions, including a pair of top tube mounts, cage mounts under the down tube, and three-pack cage bosses on each fork blade. Find photos, geometry, specs, and details below…

Bombtrack Beyond Junior Specs

While the Bombtrack Beyond Junior looks like a shrunken down version of the full-size Beyond, there is one major difference. To make it less cumbersome for kids and reduce the overall bike weight, Bombtrack chose 6061 aluminum alloy for both the frame and fork, instead of 4130 chromoly steel as used on the adult-specific Beyond. Considering the reduced load needed for Junior-bikepacking duties (both rider and gear weight), this makes complete sense.

The Beyond Junior features a Microshift Advent 1×9 drivetrain with a reduced tension rear derailleur spring to ease shifting. The drivetrain features a 32t chainring and an 11-42t cassette, which should provide a nice and easy granny gear for spinning up hills. Here are a few other specifications:

Geometry and Measurements

The Bombtrack Beyond Junior is made for riders 1.3 to 1.6 meters tall (4.25-5.35 feet), so it could also be used by smaller adults, as well. To achieve this smell person friendly version of the Beyond, Bombtrack developed their own drop-bar specific touring geometry with a low standover height. According to Bombtrack, Junior is an XXS size. Here are all the angles and measurements:

As shown above, there will also be a tailor made set of bags available for purchase. Apparently, the bags are leaving Hong Kong, their place of manufacture, this week and will be available in about 6-weeks. The set will retail for about $256 USD (€218). With that said, you could use hand-me-down small bikepacking packs from other bag companies that would likely fit as well.

The Bombtrack Beyond Junior will available in the US, Europe, UK, Australia, and Canada with pricing is as follows: $1,099.99 USD / £1,000 / €999.99 / 1,499.95 AUD / 1,499.99 CAD / 1,099.00 Swiss Franks. From what we can gather, there’s probably not going to be a large number of Juniors released in the wild…
