I'm working up to my first big self-supported ride, around 3,000km over 3- 4 weeks next year. My longest trip so far is 3.5 days (375km / 3000m), so this is a big jump and I'm equal parts excited and nervous. If you've done one of these, what's the one thing you wish someone had told you before your first? Training, gear, food, sleep, pacing, the tough mental days, anything goes. Thanks for sharing, it's much appreciated!

I recently installed a Mica Rat Tail, it's really nice. Can anyone identify the stainless steel clamps that connect the struts to the rack? I've found all kinds of tubing clamps, just not this particular model. Thanks for any help.

Anyone having issues with Rene Herse TPU tubes? I’ve had 3 fail on me and being blamed for user error and to just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s this terrible design where the valve stem can’t even seat its own gasket into the rim hole because it is retracted. I’m being told it’s my rims causing the holes. But the holes don’t even come close to the rim hole. I had the same issue on two different tubes in two different wheels. Following all the recommended pressures etc. They’ve been dismissive which is frustrating. Anyways, want some righteous indignant street justice, but would settle for some general insight.

Got my first ultra race in a few weeks. We are looking at 240 miles, and the furthest I've ever ridden is 146. Any words of advice for ultra racing? Have you ever been out on a long race and wished you had something that you didn't bring? I'm planning to bring clothing layers, a very basic sleep kit, repair tools, and lots of space for food and water. Anything else I'm missing?

New flats. I am looking to get me some new flat pedals, and would love some thoughts on which to get. I ride composite pedals now and they have served me well over the years, but now I look for something else. I ride slow and sweet on a steel bike, with/without packs and most kinds of terrain, all kinds of shoes and sandals. I do like stuff well built and don't mind paying for it.

Do you have recommendations for natural fibre UPF 30+ clothing in 25-35 Celsius sun weather? I don’t want to wear anything above 15% synthetics content. I can see the Icebreaker 150 ace (though, I don’t know if it’s too hot for the temps).

Can anyone identify this rack? I thought it was a Surly 8-pack rack, but it doesn’t appear to match any pictures of the version 1 or version 2 8-pack racks that I can find. It has no logos or markings. It does has mounting holes on the underside for a fork crown mounting bracket, so it is that capability as well. Interestingly , it doesn’t play well with my surly ECR fork. The mounting holes on the shorter struts are set slightly too far back, so the holes don’t line up with the upper rack mounts on the ECR fork.

Any 3D printer experts? I'm envisioning a "water bottle" cage of sorts BUT for the Jetboil Summit Skillet. I have a spot up high under the downtube that I could mount this. I'm picturing a 3-armed, "peace symbol" with slots for a few Voile straps to hold it snug. So that the under side of the skillet faces the front tire. Thoughts?

Hello all, I am planning a bikepacking trip in September along part of the Golden Gravel Trail, going west from Pueblo, Colorado. It appears the trail goes right through a recent, and possibly current, burn area. Anyone have any information regarding trail conditions, closures, access, etc. for the trail between Pueblo and the Westcliff area? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Neil, if you were deciding between two amazing bikes, the Ded Reckin’ and the Revel Ranger - what do you think the deciding factors would be? Weight? Terrain? Is there a certain scenario where you would choose one or the other? Leaning Ded Reckin (assuming I can get in on a pre-order) but don’t feel like I would be terribly let down with a Ranger.
