I will be traveling to Shanghai, China in late April. Does anyone have any route recommendations or specific areas that are gravel bike friendly? I have flexibility to travel outside of the area a few days so feel free to suggest anything within a days train ride away. Thanks in advance!

Nice paths along the river and you can cross to the other side with your bike on the small ferries. I spent a month in Shanghai and two months on Zhoushan Island. I found a lot of hidden mountain climbs on almost abandoned roads as they built new tunnels through the mountains in Zhoushan. Good Luck.

You would need to take a fast train to Moganshan (train stop: Deqing west, ~1-2hours) or (i would highly recommend) to a place called Wild Home Stay run by Justin (Tain stop: Sanyang ~2hours). Justin is a keen biker and lots of dirt around there. WHS has bikes for rent too. https://www.wildhomestay.com/. To take your bike on a train here you need to use a rinko bag (removing your front and rear wheel) or you will not be able to enter the train station. If you fancy meeting in Shanghai give us a shout.

Just south of Ningbo there is Ninghai which has a ton of hiking trails which mostly are rideable.
