My son and I are planning a two week long door-to-door tour through Colorado this summer. We had planned to ride it in August, but scheduling conflicts have us eyeballing the second half of June. Thoughts? My general rule has been to wait to do high country routes/passes until the fourth of July, but with the (very!) low snow pack this year I'm wondering if June might also be better for water supply and fire danger. Here's a draft of our route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48739142

In fact, there are folks who are already starting to hike the CT this year, which is scary with such a small snowpack. I also think another upside would be avoiding wildfires and smoke. Come August, it's going to get really bad. Even if we get monsoons, the West is going to see one of the worst fire seasons in our time, so it's best to be off the trail by the end of summer. At least, that's my thinking. I'm planning on doing the CT the last week of June this year, which is usually too early, but not this year.

Thanks Neil! We had the same thoughts about fires. And I know it's a crazy route...but he's a little crazy, too. We'll see if we can pull it off and if I can keep up! You probably gathered that the route utilizes a number of your routes (so thanks!), but he does have some dreams of making it more widely available, too.
