The newly released Alpkit Elan is a lightweight, waterproof bivy that uses a crossed pole design for more interior space and a completely freestanding setup. Find details and photos here…
Announced last, the Alpkit Elan is a sub-1kg, waterproof bivy bag with a pole-supported canopy, mesh ventilation, and a zippered entry. Although stakes can be used for extra stability, Alpkit claims the crossed pole design is completely freestanding while offering more comfort than a traditional bivy bag.
The Alpkit Elan bivy is constructed from 70D Ripstop Nylon, with a higher waterproof rating on the top fabrics. When set up, there is 88″ (225cm) of useable length, potentially making it a great option for taller riders looking for a minimalist shelter. The Elan weighs just 900g (not including pegs) and packs down to 15″ x 4″ (39cm x 11cm). Mesh panels at the rear of the bivy assist with ventilation and roll-away storm flaps can be deployed when the weather turns. The Elan’s two 7001-alloy poles are designed to pack small and fit between most drop bars, and the entire setup weighs 900 grams (not including pegs).
