Kim McNett traversed 170 miles of wilderness beach in Arctic Alaska by fatbike and packraft, photographing the more than 900 dead seabirds she found on the coast. This short video serves as her artist’s statement for her Seabird Memorial, for which she painstakingly painted every bird she photographed along the way. Watch it here…
Last August, our friends Kim McNett and Bjørn Olson pedaled and paddled a 170-mile stretch of Alaska’s rugged coastline so Kim could help track seabird dieoff, which is becoming a larger and more frequent problem as seabird populations rapidly decline due to starvation and an environment that’s failing them. In total, she found close to 1,000 dead seabirds, which she individually photographed, then painted one by one for her Seabird Memorial, a tribute to the birds she’s grown to love and a call to protect our planet in the face of climate change.
