Released today, the 2020 45NRTH Wölvhammer and Wølfgar winter cycling boots get some major updates to keep your toes warm and dry in the worst winter weather. Check out all the details and watch the video here…

Just in time for winter, 45NRTH has updated their popular Wölvhammer and Wølfgar winter cycling boots. Both boots have come along way since their initial release, each getting thoughtful updates over the years that have made winter bikepacking and endurance events much more comfortable. The latest versions are especially interesting, addressing issues that confirms 45NRTH’s position at the forefront of cold-weather cycling. 45NRTH is in the business of keeping you warm, and from our experience, they’re very good at it.

2020 45NRTH Wolvhammer Boots

I reviewed the 2017 Wölvhammer boots and was thoroughly impressed with their durable, weather resistant design, but did find the closure system to be a bit tricky to operate while wearing gloves. I thought a removable liner could be helpful in that regard. Last year’s model swapped the drawstring closure out for a BOA and upper velcro strap, but was otherwise left mostly unchanged. For 2020, the Wölvhammer has been completely redesigned to be warmer, grippier, faster drying, and does so without adding additional weight. For the first time, the Wölvhammer features a removable Primaloft-insulated liner that assists with drying the boot out at night.

The boot still features a fully waterproof outer shell, but now offers additional insulation surrounding the cleat area and ‘micro-glass’ rubber lugs on the outsole for additional traction on ice. 45NRTH recommends a useable temperature range from 0°F to 25°F (-17°C to -3°C), and the 2020 Wölvhammer is priced at $325 USD. 2020 45NRTH Wolfgar Boots

The new 45NRTH Wølfgar boot sees a similar treatment to the updated Wölvhammer, swapping out an external lace system for a dual-zone BOA M3 dial to isolate the boot’s fit between the ankle and toes. The new Wølfgar also sees additional aerogel insulation around the cleat area and maintains its removable felted wool liner boot. The Wølfgar continues to be 45NRTH’s most extreme winter boot, offering double the insulation compared to the Wölvhammer, rated for -25°F to 10°F (-31°C to -12°C) and priced at $475 USD.
