Rocky Mountain recently announced the 2020 Solo, including new colours, build kits, and updated price points. Find all of the details and a few photos here…
We reviewed the 2019 Rocky Mountain Solo 70 just a few months ago. Miles sang praises for it’s ability to fill the gap between road bike and knobby-tired mountain bike that he often sought out. For those most interested in such a bike for tackling a mix of paved roads, gravel, and the occasional trail, the Rocky Mountain Solo is definitely worth checking out. Not much has changed for 2020. It’s still the same frame with the same geometry. But, Rocky debuted two new color options and updated build kits. Both appear to be more in line with what the Solo was designed for.
2020 Rocky Mountain Solo 30 Build Kit
Compared to last year’s Solo 30, not a whole lot has changed. The 2020 Solo 30 is still based around a SRAM Apex 1×11 drivetrain, a Butted 6061 Alloy frame and carbon fork, and still has cargo cage mounts on the fork, and three bottle mounts on the frame. The WTB Nano tires are updated to WTB Venture TCS Light tires (700×40), and the 2020 model now sports slightly higher end WTB ST i21 TCS rims. Asides from being $70 cheaper than last year’s Solo 30, now priced at $1,429 USD, we are definitely fans of the new paint job as well.

2020 Rocky Mountain Solo 50 Build Kit
What does the Solo 50 get you? For starters, you make the jump from mechanical disc brakes to SRAM Apex hydraulic and both the rear hub and cassette get upgrades as well. Other than that… not a whole lot! Neither the Solo 30 or Solo 50 are specced with dropper posts, although the frames are routed and ready to accept one if you desire. The 2020 Rocky Mountain Solo 50 is priced at $1,999 USD, the same as last year’s price.

For those more interested in the dropper post equipped Solo 70, it appears it will still be available for 2020 and priced at $2,599 USD in an almost identical build to the one we reviewed this winter. There are a few small changes like new WTB Venture TCS Light 27.5×2.0″ tires, WTB ST Light i23 TCS 2.0 rims, and a 40T chainring instead of a 42T like last year’s build. The Solo 70 is the only model that didn’t get an updated paint job, so gold with teal accents is what you get!
If you’re interested in any of the Rocky Mountain Solo models, make sure to give our review a good read as a lot of it will still apply to the 2020 builds. Head over to Bikes.com to learn more…
