The 2023 Pivot Mach 4SL sees a redesign that sheds weight off the previous version and has more room for water bottles or a custom bolt-on frame bag. Check out all the details here…
Although the Pivot Mach 4SL is marketed as a cross-country racing bike, it has all the accoutrements to be a solid short-travel bikepacking rig as well. That includes a lightweight build, reasonably sized front triangle, and various mounting points, all of which could make it a contender for ultra-endurance events or just regular ol’ singletrack bikepacking.
The new Pivot Mach 4SL weighs less than its predecessor, shaving 300-400 grams off the frame. Complete bikes can weight as little as 23 pounds (in the size small, XX World Cup build). According to Pivot, this is due to their new vertical shock layout, lightweight carbon frame, and DW-Link suspension design.
As far as geometry goes, the 2023 Pivot Mach 4SL has a full degree slacker head tube angle at 66.7°, longer reach and wheelbase, and steeper seat tube angle. Although it’s still a race bike at heart, it also seems adequate as a light-duty downcountry bike. Other features include a flip-chip on the rocker to adjust the rear travel to 95mm or 103mm (World Cup builds) and 106 or 115mm (Team, Pro, and Ride builds).
There’s room for two water bottles on sizes medium to extra-large and one large bottle on extra-small and small frames. There are additional mounting points under the downtube, and all frame sizes have mounts under the top tube, which look perfect for a custom bolt-on frame bag.
There are eight build options to choose from, ranging from $6,199 from $11,599 USD, built around either Shimano or SRAM drivetrains and a mix of high-end components. They are all based around 29 x 2.2″ and 2.4″ tires, dropper posts, 120mm travel forks (100mm on the World Cup builds), and wide-range 12-speed drivetrains.
