Totally revamped in 2019, the full-suspension Salsa Spearfish is a progressive XC mountain bike for lightweight trail riding and endurance events. The Spearfish features Salsa’s Split Pivot rear end design, modern geometry, and provisions for all-day rides including top tube mounts, dual bottle mounts, and downtube mounts. Each build features 120mm of front suspension, a 100mm rear shock, wide range 1×12 drivetrains, and has plenty of room for a custom frame bag or Salsa’s EXP Series Frame Pack.
While nothing major has changed for 2023, the Spearfish has all the fixings for a fun and lightweight short-travel mountain bike for bikepacking and general trail riding duties. 2023 Salsa Spearfish Carbon XT
According to Salsa, the top-end Spearfish Carbon XT is the “endurance XC bike of your dreams.” It’s built up around a RockShox SID Ultimate fork, Fox Float DPS Performance Elite shock, a 12-speed Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain, Reynolds Carbon wheels, and fast-rolling Maxxis Ardent Race 29 x 2.35″ tires. 2023 Salsa Spearfish Carbon SLX
The Spearfish Carbon SLX “hits a sweet spot between race-day performance and weekday fun.” It features a RockShox SID Select+ fork, Fox Float DPS Performance shock, a 12-speed Shimano SLX drivetrain, WTB ST Light wheels, and 29 x 2.35″ Maxxis Ardent/Ikon tires. 2023 Salsa Spearfish Aluminum SLX
The top-level aluminum build is based around a RockShox SID RL fork, Fox Float DPS Performance shock, a Shimano SLX/Deore drivetrain, WTB ST wheels, and the same 29 x 2.35″ rubber as the rest of the builds. It costs $4,049 USD and can be found here.

The Salsa Spearfish Aluminum Deore is the most affordable complete build of the bunch at $3,449 USD. It’s built up around RockShox Recon Silver RL fork, RockShox Deluxe Select+ shock, a Shimano Deore 12-speed drivetrain, WTB ST wheels, and 29 x 2.35″ Maxxis Ardent/Ikon tires. Check it out here.
