The Surly Big Dummy is a Chromoly steel longtail cargo bike designed for hauling heavy payloads and small passengers, and it has a massive 400-pound cargo weight limit. It was first introduced back in 2008 and, according to Surly, it has allowed small business owners to minimize their carbon footprint and reliance on vehicles for business. This is also Surly’s last planned production of the Big Dummy, so this might be the last chance to snag one for yourself if you’ve been on the fence.
For 2023, the Surly Big Dummy is finished in their iconic Bruised Ego Purple colorway, available as both a complete build and a frameset. It has clearance for 26 x 2.5″ tires with fenders, a 400-pound cargo and rider weight limit, and eyelets for fenders and cargo cage mounts on the fork. The included Big Dummy Cargo Bags have been redesigned for 2023 and are now made from Bluesign-approved fabrics and are easier to install and use.
The 2023 Surly Big Dummy retails for $2,449 USD for the complete build, which is built up around a microSHIFT Advent 1×9 drivetrain, mechanical Avid BB7 brakes, and Surly ExtraTerrestrial 26 x 2.5″ tires.
