The 2026 Adidas FREERIDER is a new shoe developed in partnership with sub-brand Five Ten. Although Adidas has owned Five Ten since 2011, the two have remained aesthetically distinct. The new FREERIDER, however, sports the iconic three stripes and was developed using feedback from Adidas athletes who compete in extreme downhill and BMX-style competitions. The shoe uses Stealth rubber on the sole, a key part of the Adidas model since 2009 and something the brand says its athletes prefer.
From a design perspective, the 2026 FREERIDER models combine two ideas: Adidas’ past FREERIDERs and Five Ten’s HELLCAT model. With the former as a street/BMX shoe and the latter as a clipless model for mountain bikers, the two combine to create a shoe designed to be comfortable on and off the bike while maintaining the grip and performance customers have consistently found in either model.
This release includes three distinct models: the FREERIDER, FREERIDER PRO BOA, and FREERIDER PRO clipless, with the obvious distinction being in the closure style. Across the pro models, the brand says they feature a five-layer toe box with PORON impact resistance to increase protection. There’s a double Li2 BOA on the FREERIDER PRO BOA Clipless and a single Li2 BOA on the FREERIDER PRO BOA. Both are paired with an integrated debris shield for added protection. The flat version appears to use similar materials, with a typical lace-and-eyelet construction and a standard rubberized sole with Stealth rubber.
The shoes will be offered in US 5.5-10.5 for women and US 5.5-14.5 for men. Although Adidas is announcing the new FREERIDER today, it won’t be available until March of next year.
The new FREERIDER range starts at $120, with the FREERIDER PRO BOA and the FREERIDER PRO BOA Clipless priced at $180 and $250, respectively. For more on the 2026 FREERIDER, visit Adidas.com
