Building on the off-road success of the Exploro series, the new 3T Extrema Italia is a lightweight carbon frameset made for the world’s toughest ultra-endurance race courses. Produced in 3T’s carbon factory in Italy, the high-end Extrema Italia features a number of adventure-minded and bikepacking-friendly touches that 3T says provide a “comfortable and capable ride without compromising speed and performance.”

Despite its dainty silhouette, the Extrema Italia boasts clearance for burly 29 x 2.2″ (700c x 57mm) tires. It’s also ready to be loaded up with bags and bottles thanks to three-pack mounts on the fork legs and top side of the downtube. Despite its mostly aero tubing, a round seat tube enables the use of a dropper post, and brake cable routing is fully internal. It has a threaded BB and fender mounts, too.

A race bike at heart, the Extrema is designed with an integrated carbon stem, but its two-piece design opens up the option to use any handlebar of your choosing. Pushing it further into the top-end category, the Extrema is designed exclusively for electronic groupsets and wireless dropper posts. With a UDH rear derailleur hanger, it’s compatible with all regular (wireless) rear derailleurs and the hangerless SRAM Eagle Transmission.

The frame uses the Italian brand’s new 3Touring geometry, which they claim “lands squarely in the performance area of the gravel market even though it guarantees increased comfort relative to the Racemax, making it a fantastic option for an all-road long distance event where a more relaxed and comfortable position is essential to performance hour after hour, and often day after day.” In terms of actual numbers, that translates to a 610mm stack, 384mm reach, 72° headtube angle, 73.4° seat tube angle, and 74mm BB drop in size 58.

3T Extrema Italia

3T is offering the Extrema Italia as a frameset and several complete builds in Mercurio, Terra, or Project X (naked carbon) finishes. Framesets (including stem and handlebar) range from $5,499 to $6,099, depending on options. Complete bikes vary from $7,999 up to $11,599, depending on finish and build options.
