The new Detour mudguard collection from small Swedish company Ass Savers features a beautifully minimal design inspired by the scenery along the 700km Torino-Nice Rally route, and seeks to bridge the gap between form and function. The all-new artwork was schemed up while bikepacking, as designer Jesper Jonsson and Ass Savers founder Staffan Widell overlooked a spectacular sunset from their camp on the final night of the rally last year.
The new collection includes two updated fenders, the Fendor Bendor Big and the Mudder Mini, as well as a matching Purist water bottle. Both fenders were designed with bikepacking rigs in mind, using widths optimized for gravel bike tires. They’re engineered to be strong enough to stand up to heavy mud, but flexible enough to resist breaking when bashed around. And with the total weight of the Fendor Bendor Big and Mudder Mini coming in at just under 85 grams (3oz), they won’t add much more than the weight of an energy bar to your kit. Plus, both fenders attach in seconds without the need for any tools.
As far as how effective they are in keeping you and your gear dry, we can’t yet say for certain, but we just got a pair in and will be testing them out this spring. If you have any experience with the Fendor Bendor Big or Mudder Mini, we’d be interested to hear your feedback in the comments below.
You can visit Ass-Savers.com to purchase the Fendor Bendor Big for €16 ($18), Mudder Mini for €13 ($15), or Purist water bottle for €15 ($17). Alternatively, they’re available as a complete set for €39 ($44).
