Worried about missing out on your 2020 bikepacking event plans? Bandók Virtual Events is a new online platform that allows you to participate in ultra-endurance events around the world from the comfort of home. Learn all about this interesting new service here…

Troy Hopwood—organizer of the Cross-Washington Mountain Bike Race—has set out to provide an ultra-endurance experience during a time when we’re seeing major bikepacking events being cancelled or postponed, one after another. Bandók Virtual Events is an online platform designed to keep the ultra-endurance event stoke alive, providing a place for dot watchers and participants to get involved during these uncertain times. Troy was motivated to develop Bandók Virtual Events after seeing how disappointed people have been as events were cancelled. As he put it, “I wanted to find a way for the ultra-endurance community to come together and experience some of the joy we’re missing.”

How does it work? First, you must have a Strava account to participate in an event. As you publish your rides, your ‘dot’ will move across the map, as if you were actually there. Bandók Virtual Events will offer some of the most iconic events available, including the Tour Divide, plus some completely unique events that don’t exist in the real world. Ride non-stop for 24 hours on your home trainer or head for an hour-long ride in your neighbourhood, it’s totally up to you. For regular events, every mile you ride in the ‘real world’ will equal a mile in the virtual event. However, for events like the Everest Challenge, it’ll be based purely on elevation gain—so go find some hills! Also, it’s completely free.

There are currently three grand departs scheduled that you can register for: Tour Divide (June 12), Trans Am Bike Race (June 6), and Cross Washington (May 17th).

Head over to Bandok.com to register for an event.
