Quebec-based Bassi Bikes just added a fresh new Aqua color option to their steel all-road touring rig, the Hog’s Back, and put a little twist on their popular Sandy Beige colorway. Check both out here…

Originally released in 2020, the Bassi Hog’s Back quickly became the Quebec-based brand’s most off-road-capable bike. It picked up where their other four models left off, injecting some worthwhile modern features such as disc brakes, increased tire clearance, and mounting options—all without sacrificing the classic styling Bassi has become known for. Its Columbus Cromor Steel frame has clearance for 27.5 x 2.2″ or 700 x 45mm tires, a matching steel fork, quick-release axles, and a threaded bottom bracket. Bassi wanted the Hog’s Back to match up with a wide range of old and new components, and we think they accomplished that.

While the flashy Mauve/Purple frame I tested last year is no longer in their lineup, Bassi just added a fresh new Aqua colorway that looks pretty great as well. They’ve also brought back their Sandy Beige Hog’s Back with updated decal colors to keep things interesting.

All Hog’s Backs are ED-coated to protect the inside of the frame from rust, come in four sizes, and can be purchased as a frameset for $1,000 CAD (~$810 USD) or a custom build by working directly with Bassi/C&L Cycles or one of their distributors.

For those who haven’t read my review yet, here’s how I summed it up: “For the right kind of rider, the Bassi Hog’s Back is a home run. They managed to blend just the right amount of classic detailing and styling into a unique package that rides well and looks great. It’s a fun take on a classic touring bike that can be dressed up or down as much as you’d like. Fancy dirt-touring rig? Budget commuter parts bin build? Urban adventure machine? Check, check, check. Some folks may prefer the added versatility of plus-sized tires, pushing further into the rigid mountain bike category, but that’s not what the Hog’s Back is trying to be. It’s a modern dirt road tourer that offers the comfort and utilitarian-inspired design of a classic steel touring bike but with a slightly more playful and fun ride quality.”
