Looking to shave some weight from your solo bikepacking kit this summer? The newly released Big Agnes Scout 1 Platinum Tent is part of their crazylight shelter series, weighing in at just 369g (0.81 pounds) for a trail weight of about a pound if you include everything it comes with, including stuff sacks. The Scout 1 Platinum is designed to be pitched with two hiking poles, or optional support poles, offering multiple mesh vents and a protective eve to keep the weather out. Big Agnes claims it offers generous living space, which might be hard to imagine given that it’s a one-person tent, but it does appear to have generous headroom at the front, as well as a large door opening. Watch Big Agnes’ highlight video below, and scroll down for more details.
Constructed from a silicone treated rip-stop nylon, the Scout 1 Platinum is a single-walled tent featuring a small awning at the front entry and has taped seams for a waterproof design. The two-person model, the Scout 2 Platinum, uses a similar design but pitches with a pole in the front and one in the back, and has a larger awning at the entrance. Both tents come ready to pitch, with pre-cut guylines, tensioners on the fly, and double slider zippers on the door to assist with ventilation. The new Scout 1 Platinum is 41″ (105cm) high at the entrance and tapers down to 16″ (41cm) at the feet. The tent is 7′ long, so should be big enough to comfortably fit most people.
