New Cinq Plug5 Pure: Dynamo Power Perfected

Building on the success of The Plug, which was first announced back in 2009, the new Cinq Plug5 Pure is the latest steerer tube mounted USB power supply that strategically distributes power from your favourite dynamo hub. It has smart charging features that automatically adapts to the dynamo hub to optimize the charging current, as well as device management that recognizes your device and negotiates the correct charging current. For those runnings dynamo-powered lights as well as charging devices, the Plug5 Pure recognizes this and automatically switches between charging modes.

Like its sibling, the Plug5 Pure is equipped with Cinq’s Rotary Door, the twist lock that covers the USB-C port while not in use. It features a full aluminum housing, completely sealed electronics protected from rain and humidity, has a max output of 700mA, and weighs just 50 grams (incl. all components). The Cinq Plug5 Pure is also compatible with Cinq’s Smart Power Pack II as part of their Smart Power Kit bundle, which is a weather resistant buffer battery / powerbank that is useful when charging high-drain smartphones that need more (or more consistent) power. It also has an integrated LED flashlight, emergency tail light, and SOS flashing function.

The Cinq Plug5 Pure retails for 159€ incl. VAT (~$186 USD), while the Smart Power Kit bundle (Plug5 Pure, Smart Power Pack + X-Mount, and a Cinq USB cable) retails for 239€ incl. VAT (~$280 USD), which is about a 15% savings over the individual component price.
