The new Curve Karoo is a reimagining of their original drop-bar model, the GMX. Predicated on the design impetus that helped launch the brand, the Karoo is a modern suspension-corrected bike designed to go fast on rough terrain. Find details below…
A decade after their original big-tire, drop-bar bike was launched, the Curve Karoo arrives to modernize the thinking that inspired the GMX. According to the Australian brand, the first GMX was built for Race to the Rock, and Curve co-founder Jesse Carlsson raced the first edition on it in 2016. Now called the Karoo, this new model is a drop-bar, fat-tire bike designed around an XC suspension fork updated for modern standards and rider expectations.
The Karoo is made of titanium and designed around a 120mm suspension fork or a rigid fork with a 500mm axle-to-crown measurement. It maintains clearance for 29 x 2.6” tires and has tons of rack and bottle mounts, including some that are offset on the downtube, which Curve says allows for the use of a full-sized frame bag while still carrying three one-liter bottles. It also has seatstay bottle mounts, uses the sliding dropout system on the UpRock and GMX+ v2, and supports Rohloff, belt-drive, SRAM T-Type, UDH, and hangerless singlespeed setups. It’s an interesting setup, and one Curve says is distinctly different from their UpRock model, as its geometry is based around drop bars.
Pricing and final geometry for the Curve Karoo are still yet to be determined, but those interested can find out more about this new model at CurveCycling.com.
