The new Focus Atlas 8 is 1.7 kilograms lighter than its predecessor and is built for bikepacking, featuring loads of provisions and a unique rack accessory that mounts to the seat stays. Find all the details here…
Following the alloy Focus Atlas released in 2021, the Focus Atlas 8 gets a full carbon frame that they claim is 1.7 kilograms lighter than its predecessor, which is now called the Atlas 6 series. Further, the Atlas 8 gets Boost spacing (148 x 12mm rear / 110 x 12mm front), which I suspect is for added tire clearance, although that’s not stated in their materials. The series-8 frame also get a shorter head tube, resulting in a more sporty geometry with a lower riding position, complementing its long reach and short stem geometry. Like the 6 series, the new Focus Atlas 8 is loaded with mounts and gets a custom top tube bag and a unique accessory rack. Watch the launch video below, and read on for details.
The Focus Adventure Rack
The Focus Adventure Rack (accessory Art.Nr. 313029000) is a new rear rack designed specifically for the Atlas. It appears to have a clever mounting system that bolts directly to the seat stay bridge and lower rack mounts on the seat stays. The Adventure Rack is designed to carry a dry bag on each side, fixing them with three straps. Focus claims it offers a stable system and you can load up to three kilograms on each side, even on rough terrain.
The ATLAS frame also provides a multitude of other load-carrying features. The Focus ATLAS 8 series and 6.8 come with their new top tube bag to store essential tools or snacks. For bottle cages, the frame features pair of mounts on the seat tube and two more at the down tube—one above and one below. The carbon fork has three-packs of mounts on each leg for cages or rack mounting duties. Focus suggests up to three kilograms on each leg.
Focus Atlas 8 Builds
The Focus Atlas 8 comes in three builds in five sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL. Each is specced with 700 x 45mm WTB Riddler tires, internal cable routing, and a PF86 bottom bracket. Here’s a quick rundown of each model in the range.
Focus Atlas 8.9
The high-end Focus Atlas 8.9 comes with a SRAM Rival eTap AXS XPLR wireless drivetrain featuring a gravel-specific 1×12 (40/10–44) gear ratio. It also gets a DT SWISS GR1600 wheelset, an Easton EC70 AX carbon handlebar, a fi’zi:k Taiga saddle, and 700 x 45mm WTB Riddler tires. The Atlas 8.9 comes in a bronze color for €4,299. Focus Atlas 8.8
The mid-tier Focus Atlas 8.8 comes with a SHIMANO GRX 810 2X11 groupset, DT SWISS X1900 wheelset, Easton EA70 AX alloy bars, and the same tires and saddle as the 8.9. It has ivory/tan paint and sells for €3,499. Details here.
Focus Atlas 8.7
The Focus Atlas 8.7 is the lower-tier option and comes with a SHIMANO GRX600 2X11 groupset, Novatec 25 Elite wheels, FOCUS JD RA85 bars, and the same Taiga saddle and WTB Riddlers as the two other models. It comes in dark gray for €2,999. Details here.
