For those who have yet to visit Bicycle Nomad Café in Phoenix, Arizona, I’ll let you in on a little secret: Erick Cedeno, the owner of the shop, won’t let you leave before some kind of photo is taken. It could be a quick shot of the recognizable “Be Here Now” floor art, or his signature and highly Instagramable CocoSpresso (two espresso shots served in a freshly cracked coconut), but you can bet some kind of photo will come out of it, regardless.
I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the shop a few times over the past couple of years, and The Fool’s Loop, a route I scouted and published, happens to start and finish at Bicycle Nomad Café. Although this makes for a fairly urban first day on the route, it also creates a simple start, logistically speaking, to the ride for those flying in to Phoenix. Erick, a bikepacker and avid cyclist himself, truly enjoys seeing and snapping photos of the riders who come by the café. Besides The Fool’s Loop and the Black Canyon Trail, there are several other classic road touring routes that bring cyclists into Phoenix, many of whom won’t escape Erick’s neat little spot without having their photo taken.
We’ve gone back and collected 26 of the riders Erick managed to grab photos of, although we expect there are many more. We are always so happy to see our efforts pay off, so if you rode the route let us know in the comments below!
Looking to escape winter to somewhere warm? Make sure to check out The Fool’s Loop route page. Also, if Erick missed your photo, drop us a note in the comments below.
