In an exciting new chapter for the builders behind Vetra Bikes and Drust Cycles from Berlin, our framebuilding friends André and Konstantin have recently joined forces for their new project, Akinn Cycles. Coming together in a space of mutual outlook, the dynamic duo plans to manufacture batches of customized bicycles, starting their journey with the Subsun off-road drop-bar bike.
Here’s what they have to say about their inaugural fast and comfortable all-rounder: “Like a light glare under the sun, the Subsun shines as a frameset that won’t hold you back on your fast-paced weekend rides, as well your fully rigged-out bikepacking trip. Flexible geo, faaat tire clearance, and multiple bag configuration possibilities makes it a frameset with no compromises.”
The Subsun comes in five frame sizes with two stack heights per size, meaning riders will get a nearly tailored fit, and there’s plenty of room for customization with respect to frame details such as bottle cage mounts and rack provisions. There’ll be three nature-inspired paint options (Sky Burst Blue, Desert Mirage, and Onyx Black) and a choice of graphics. The handbuilt frames come bundled with a bikepacking-ready Seido MGV carbon fork, which promises big 29 x 2.25” tire clearance and ample cargo capacity.
To get Akinn off the ground, they are now offering a pre-order of the unique handbuilt framesets at an early bird price of €2,500 ($2,700). Delivery of frames is slated for a quick two months after finalizing the order.
Standardizing their work means the two builders can offer no-compromise handbuilt frames with all the high-end features of a fully custom at a significantly lower price point. Fans of Vetra and Drust have nothing to worry about, as they will continue for the love of pushing framebuilding boundaries and the joy of creating custom bicycles.
