We recently stumbled upon the vibrant range of handbuilt bikepacking bags from Steady Co. in Oklahoma City, and maker Bryan Couchman’s design background shines through in his refreshingly unexpected mash-ups of patterns and colors. Learn more about the small brand and find a peek at a handful of bags here…

Founded by Bryan Couchman in January 2020, Steady Co. is an independent bikepacking bag maker based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The small brand has somehow flown under my radar up to now, but I recently spotted a beautiful custom-printed Steady top tube bag on Instagram, and it stopped me in my tracks, which isn’t something I can often say about stem bags.

There are currently 10 products in the Steady lineup, including a handlebar bag, several frame bags, a couple of seat bags, and a hip pack. What distinguishes Steady’s bags from the innumerable handmade offerings on the market today are the bold, unique, and playful color combinations available across the range. They’re mostly built from a mix of Cordura, X-Pac, and Dyneema fabrics.

Drawing on his background in graphic design, Bryan’s bags feature a delightful mix of hues and patterns. He recently designed and printed his own textiles through Rip Stop by the Roll’s custom printing service, which lends the bags a distinctive touch. The Terrazzo, which is based on a recycled rubber material used in industrial design, is a particular favorite. And, from the sounds of it, Bryan is excited to continue exploring custom fabrics and will likely continue designing and offering them in the future.
