Last fall, Lael Wilcox shared that she had plans to go after the women’s around-the-world cycling record (the fastest circumnavigation of the globe by bicycle). This isn’t something we get to talk about often here on site, mainly because it’s such a monstrous feat that few people attempt. Contributor Jenny Graham holds the current women’s around-the-world cycling record. In 2018, she rode some 18,500 miles across four continents in around 124 days, 10 hours, and 50 minutes. The previous record of 144 days was nearly three weeks longer, which was set by Paola Gianotti in 2014.

Lael’s ride kicks off from Chicago, Illinois, on May 26th, and in preparation for that, she recently released a new podcast that will provide an in-depth look at her preparation and short daily podcasts from the road. Episode one just dropped, and it covers the rules of the attempt and the route she’ll be following. Listen to it below:
