We’re thrilled to share that we’ve teamed up with Mason Cycles for our latest Collective Reward. One very lucky Bikepacking Collective member will receive a Mason Bokeh all-road adventure frameset in their choice of size (50-62cm) and color (Element Grey, Flare Orange, of Filter Green). That’s a $1,375 value, and we can’t wait to get one of our supporters out bikepacking on a Bokeh.
Designed with comfortable, fast, long-distance rides in mind, we’ve been spotting more and more Bokehs lined up for ultra-distance races and rides, including the recent running of the GBDURO. If you’ve missed it until now, the Mason Bokeh is built around a Dedacciai custom-shaped performance aluminium frame with a Mason Parallax2 full carbon fork, both of which pack in a ton of clever bikepacking-friendly features, including clearance for big 650b x 50mm or 700c x 45mm tires, mounts for Anything-style cages on the fork, a front light, three bottles, racks, and fenders, plus adaptable internal cable routing and front dynamo light routing, a threaded bottom bracket, front and rear thru-axles, and more. Find more details on the Bokeh below.
Want a Chance to Win?
Everyone who has joined our Bikepacking Collective by 11:59 PM EDT on Saturday, October 17th, will automatically be entered to win this Mason Bokeh frameset, along with several other prizes. Our members are essential to ensuring the future of the site, and receive two issues of The Bikepacking Journal in the mail each year, plus have access to lots of other great member benefits. We’re largely reader supported, and every member makes a difference.
Mason Bokeh Highlights
This frame is constructed from Triple Butted, Hand Selected, custom shaped, 7000 series, Dedacciai Alu tubes and tig welded by hand with beautiful Smooth weld beads. The welds require no after sanding or finishing, so there is no thinning and weakening of the tubes at crucial areas.
Parallax2 Full Carbon Fork
This frame is fitted with our ‘Parallax2’ 465g, 12mm thru-axle/flat-mount, monocoque carbon fork. We develop our own custom tubing and wheels, so when it comes to the forks for our bicycles it makes total sense for us to design and tool up for our own fork too. We don’t want to compromise ride-feel, balance and performance by using an ‘off-the-shelf’ and generic product.
The Bokeh is optimised for large-volume treaded tyres, and is designed for 650B and 700C wheel sizes. Using the smaller 650B wheel means that you can fit a larger-volume treaded tyre, but with the same rolling radius as a 700C x 28mm wheel/tyre.
The ThruBB’s large 50mm diameter presents a large weld area to the base of the down tube and then steps down to the 68mm width threaded seats. This step-down provides plenty of space around the outside of the bottom-bracket bearings to allow the control cable and hose to pass through on the way to the chain stays and out to the brake and rear mech.
The unique seat stays flow out of the ovalised top tube and then curve and taper down to meet the chain stays which curve up towards the axle. We call this ‘BoatTail’, a custom bend giving disc-rotor and calliper clearance, helping to avoid chain-slap on the rough stuff and allowing a little compliance to help smooth the ride.
F-Stop Axle System
The Mason F-Stop Axle System was developed for our exclusive Aperture2 fork and we now use the special axle for the Mason Parallax fork on the Bokeh and BokehTi. The axle uses a positive-closure release lever, ensuring that the wheel is always securely and firmly mounted. The F-Stop system also includes a ‘clockable’ thread on the axle, meaning you can always position the release lever exactly where you want it.
Internal Cable Routing
The cables, hoses, and electronic shift control wires run through the frame tubes, guided by our Mason ‘MultiPort’ adaptable inserts. Interchangeable Internal routing keeps the control cabling away from road dirt and grime, helps avoid accidental damage, makes cleaning easy, de-clutters your bike and means you can adapt your bike easily to work with various shifting and braking methods. For adventure and endurance riding, internal routing also has the advantage that it is easy to strap frame packs to the frame tubes without being hindered by external cabling and hoses.
Flat Mount Brakes
Flat mount disc-brake callipers are lighter, neater, and open up more space within the dropout area for racks and ‘guards. The calliper is mounted to the dropout, allowing us to use a lighter, more comfortable seat-stay.
Loads of Mounts
The Bokeh has two sets of Anything-style mounts on the fork, a front light mount, three bottle mounts, as well as discreet fender and rack mounts.
