After several years of prototype teasers, the new Mason Macro is finally available. Designed with maximum versatility in mind, the Macro features a lightweight aluminum frame, a rigid or suspension fork, clearance for 29 x 2.4″ tires, and much more. Learn all about it here…
The Macro is the 10th model in Mason’s lineup, and it pays homage to founder Dom Mason’s roots in mountain biking. It fills the gap between the Bokeh gravel bike and the RAW hardtail we tested as a “lightweight configurable adventure hardtail,” as Mason puts it. It’s finally back from lab testing and was put through its paces at several ultra-endurance events by Mason athletes Josh Ibbett, Angus Young, and Phillipa Battye.
Like the RAW, the Mason Macro is welded in Italy using high-quality Dedacciai aluminum tubing. It is compatible with Mason’s HotShoe2 carbon fork or can be run with a 100-120mm suspension fork. According to Mason, it features geometry that can play nicely with both flat bar and drop bar setup. All four sizes are optimized for 29 x 2.0 – 2.4″ tires, and the frame uses a SRAM UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) with boost hub spacing front and rear.

The Mason Macro has 28 eyelets, all told, including rear rack mounts, two standard bottle mounts inside the main triangle, additional bosses under the downtube, and top tube bosses for bolt-on top tube bags. The optional HotShoe2 carbon fork has bottle/accessory mounts on both fork legs, and can also accept the Mason Condenser rack or Shutter load-bearing fender. Another unique feature is something Mason calls “configurable cable routing options.” Mason designed a large 56mm diameter headtube to allow cables to be routed through the headtube and frame to stay out of the way for bags, or standard internal routing through the downtube MultiPorts, or if you choose, a mix of both.
The Macro uses a threaded 73mm bottom bracket with a shell that’s machined from billet aluminum in Italy. They designed it with an oversized cavity that meets the downtube to provide plenty of space for cables and hoses to pass through without interfering with the bottom bracket bearings, thus requiring the use of a a 24mm or 30mm ‘sleeved’ bottom bracket.
Mason Macro Geometry
The Mason Macro has a conservative 67.5° head tube angle that’s in line with off-road touring bikes and some cross-country mountain bikes. It has a short wheelbase, relatively steep seat tube angle, and a low 63mm bottom bracket drop.

Mason is kicking off the launch of the Macro with two color options: “Grigio Tecno” (blue) and a limited edition “TiltShift Metallic” (bronze). There are two complete build options to choose from, based around either a SRAM GX Transmission drivetrain or mechanical Shimano SLX 12-speed, with prices starting at £3,300 (~$4,200 USD). Within each build you have the option to add a suspension fork, upgrade the drivetrain, change components, add a dynamo setup, and more. Framesets are also available for £1,500 (~$2,000 USD), which are expected to arrive alongside the complete builds toward the end of 2024.
