We just happened upon a charming two-minute video from Canada’s public broadcaster, CBC, shot in 1986, when mountain bikes were making a big splash across the country. Watch it to find out if mountain bikes are here to stay…
“The bike that was built to go up mountains will also let you off-road in the city,” says the narrator in this quaint CBC video from the mid 1980s, taking a somewhat skeptical approach to describing what’s essentially the ideal commuter bike. The piece questions whether or not mountain biking would remain a luxury niche or become a mainstream activity, especially with some bikes being outlandishly expensive for the time, and it offers some unique insight into how MTBs were viewed at the time.
