The Mountaineer Monster bikepacking race vlog is a four-part series that details how Jesse Smith won the 470-mile option of the West Virginia race. Watch it below…
The Mountaineer Monster is a self-supported bikepacking race/ride that offers 110, 270, and 470-mile routes across West Virginia. Combining epic riding with West Virginia culture and lore, this event also has an integrated cryptid scavenger hunt. With the inaugural grand depart having kicked off in late October of this year, Jesse Smith—owner of a popular bike shop in Columbus, Indiana called the Bicycle Station—took on the largest route. In his Mountaineer Monster bikepacking race vlog series, he details his experience.
To spoil the series, Jesse was the eventual winner of the 470-mile edition of the Mountaineer Monster, setting the course FKT at 80 hours and 23 minutes. In this four-part series, he walks viewers through his setup and a detailed vlog of his race. Packing pretty minimally, Jesse completed the route on his ENVE Mog while using some custom South City Stitchworks bags for his bare-bones approach.
