Launched exclusively with Hyperlite Mountain Gear, the new Dyneema Woven Composites are made up of layered and bonded Dyneema fibers to offer exceptionally high strength, abrasion resistance, and durability. Learn more here…

Referred to as “the world’s strongest fiber,” Dyneema is a premium brand of ultra-high molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fabrics. The company has been driving material science innovations for more than 30 years, creating strong fibers and fabrics that offer unmatched performance and durability. Dyneema has more than 1,100 employees worldwide and is part of Avient Corporation umbrella and a long list of other brands producing screen printing inks, polymer additives, protective materials, and more.

In the outdoor gear world, Dyneema fabrics are used in tents, packs, and bags. Dyneema composite fabrics offer an impressive strength-to-weight ratio, resist sagging when wet, and are waterproof. We’ve reviewed a number of tents made from Dyneema fabrics over the years, and a consistent finding is that they are some of the lightest and most durable shelters available. Being a premium material, Dyneema products are typically more expensive than polyester or nylon alternatives.

We’re excited to hear that Dyneema is expanding beyond its traditional composite fabrics with the introduction of the first woven product: Dyneema Woven Composites. Dyneema Woven Composites takes performance to the next level by combining the strength of a Dyneema core with a 100% Dyneema abrasion-resistant woven face fabric. The woven fabric doubles up on the amount of Dyneema being used and is claimed to offer 10x more abrasion resistance, 5x better tear resistance, and 34 percent weight savings compared to the standard composites.

Dyneema teamed up with Hyperlite Mountain Gear as the exclusive launch partner, offering updated versions of their Windrider, Southwest, and Junction packs made with the new fabric. Both brands spent two years in R&D, followed by extensive field testing in the Grand Canyon. The results were positive, offering better durability with a negligible increase in weight of 0.1 ounces per square yard.
