Made from raw 5052 aluminum with a hand-stamped logo, the new Mica Sideburns cargo cage weighs 76 grams and attaches to any three-pack mount. Mica has a fresh light mount, too. Check them out here…

Skyler Des Roches, founder of Mica Cycles and creator of the minimal and lightweight Rat Tail rear rack, recently added a cargo cage to the Mica product lineup. The Mica Sideburns is as simple as a cargo cage can be, which aligns with Skyler’s less-is-sometimes-more approach to product design. As Skyler puts it, “There are many cargo cages on the market, and this is one of them.”

The Sideburns cargo cage is made from raw 5052 aluminum, laser cut, and then bent into shape. It has a fixed three-bolt position that should work on any standard three-pack mount. There are five slots for 3/4″ (20mm) cargo straps, and each cage is finished with a hand-stamped logo. The Sideburns have no fancy anodization; instead, they feature a simple tumbled aluminum finish that gives them a dull, industrial look.

The Mica Sideburns are fatigue tested to 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds), weigh 76 grams per cage, and don’t include straps or mounting hardware. Each cage is made in Canada and costs $36 CAD (~$28 USD), making it one of the more affordable cargo cages available, especially for folks north of the border.

Launched alongside the Sideburns is a nifty little light bracket designed to mount directly to the back of a Rat Tail rack. The brackets are made from 316 stainless steel, weigh just 6 grams, and are made in Canada. It has clearance for M5 screws and can accommodate any rear light that uses a single bolt mount. The rear light bracket costs $6 CAD ($4.50 USD).
