In 2019, Why Cycles was absorbed by its sister company Revel. Despite being a relatively new brand, it has firmly established its place in the cycling world with its titanium and carbon full-suspension bikes. One of Revel’s flagship bikes is the Rascal—a versatile, all-mountain full-suspension with 140mm of travel up front and 130mm in the rear. Last year, the Rascal V2 was announced using the same CBF suspension system, fork and shock travel, carbon frame, and 29″ wheels. The V2 introduced an additional frame size (S-XXL), geometry updates, and more build options.
Building on the Rascal platform is the new Rascal SL, which we can only presume stands for “super light.” The Revel Rascal SL features an all-new frame that’s nearly a half-pound lighter than the standard frame. It’s designed to improve speed and efficiency without sacrificing the playfulness and capability of its 130mm rear travel, 140mm fork, and CBF suspension system.

The Rascal SL has a number of familiar specs, including a carbon frame, 73mm BSA threaded bottom bracket, a SRAM UDH rear dropout, 31.6mm seatpost, and a max tire size of 29 x 2.6″. Like the standard Rascal, it comes in five frame sizes (S-XXL) that all feature a 66° head tube angle, 38mm bottom bracket drop, 75° effective seat tube angle, and 433mm chainstays. The frame has mounts under the top tube, a single bottle mount, and additional threaded mounts under the downtube, so while the shock placement doesn’t leave much room for a frame bag, there are plenty of options to carry gear and water on long rides.
