The latest addition to State Bicycle Co.’s lineup of affordable 4130 Chromoly steel bikes is a brand-new hardtail mountain bike with modern specs, a 130mm travel fork, clearance for 29 x 2.6″ tires, and a refreshing $1,500 complete price point. Check out the new State 4130 Trail here…
In a time when the future of the entire cycling industry (and nearly every other industry) is uncertain and life is more expensive than ever, State Bicycle Co. is on a mission to produce more affordable bikes. The State 4130 All-Road was recently updated with fresh specs, new builds, and complete builds starting at just $1,000, making it one of the most promising budget-friendly gravel bikes available.
New for 2025, State is expanding into the mountain bike world for the first time with the new State 4130 Trail, bringing all the budget-friendly features we’ve come to expect from the 4130 lineup together with a totally new steel hardtail mountain bike. As State puts it, the 4130 Trail is a “no-BS trail machine designed to crush climbs, rip descents, and handle whatever you throw at it.” It’s designed around a double-butted 4130 Chromoly frame, a relatively slack 65° headtube angle, 29 x 2.4″ tires (with clearance for 2.6″), external cable routing, and a 130mm travel fork.
The frame has internal dropper post routing, a SRAM UDH rear dropout, a 73mm threaded bottom bracket, a standard bottle mount on the seat tube and three-pack mounts on both sides of the downtube, and can also play nicely with 27.5 x 3.0″ tires. The 4130 Trail is available in four frame sizes (XS-XL), and all have a 65° head tube, 74.4° seat tube, 56mm bottom bracket drop, and short 426.5mm chainstays. Dig into the full geometry chart below.

The $1,500 complete build comes with WTB i30 rims, WTB Trailboss TCS 29 x 2.4” tires, a 1×11 Speed MicroShift XLE derailleur/shifter, a State-branded crankset, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes. The standard build comes with a rigid post, but you can add a PNW dropper post kit for $199, and drivetrain, brake, and wheel upgrades are also available. There aren’t any rear rack mounts, but the Old Man Mountain axle kit, a Tailfin rack, or the Mica Rat Tail rack would get around that.
The State 4130 Trail is offered in two colors: West Sunset (purple) or Patina Gold (mustard). Complete builds are available now, and frames start at $495 USD. Visit StateBicycle.com to learn more or grab one for yourself.
