Oregon’s Old Man Mountain has been on a roll over the last couple of years with the launch of the new Divide and Elkhorn racks and a collaboration with North Street bags. They just upped their ante in the bikepacking bag game with the release of an all-new set of panniers and a trunk bag. Both are made from 100% waterproof TPU fabric with welded seams, and they look pretty promising. Find details on the Old Man Mountain Ponderosa Panniers and Juniper Trunk Bag below.
Old Man Mountain Ponderosa Panniers
The Old Man Mountain Ponderosa Panniers each feature 13 liters of storage with a roll-top design constructed from welded TPU-coated nylon. The panniers secure to the rack with two large velcro straps at the top and use the lower compression strap to loop through tubing at the lower portion of the rack. All of the compression straps are replaceable, which is a nice touch. The Ponderosa only comes in black and has minimal branding with an exposed velcro loop so you can customize it with patches of your choice to add a little flair.
One thing that sets the Ponderosa Panniers apart is that they each have two HDPE plastic stiffener sheets inside. There’s one in the back that sits against the rack for stability, plus a removable front sheet that allows the bag to compress evenly for a slimmer profile with smaller loads. The two side compression straps are designed to work with these sheets for lateral compression.

- Dual framesheets (front and back of the bag) provide more even compression, and the front framesheet is removable – you can even use it as a charcuterie board!

- Lower attachment/compression strap remains under load to prevent bags from flapping around
- Hypalon reinforcements at all attachment points are more abrasion resistant and provide extra grip where needed

- Minimal Weight: 475 grams (each), 950 grams per pair (without side compression straps, front framesheet, or side roll-top clips)
- Full Weight: 560 grams (each), 1120 grams per pair

Old Man Mountain Juniper Trunk Bag
Like the Ponderosa Panniers, the new Juniper Trunk is made from waterproof TPU fabric with welded seams and Hypalon reinforcements. The Juniper Trunk has 10 liters of storage, secures to the rack deck with four cam lock straps, and has a simple roll-top design for expandability.
