The new OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote installs into existing SRAM brake levers to offer easy-access, seamless dropper post actuation. Learn more about it here…
OneUp just came out with a clever hack-esque component. The new Oneup Drop Bar Paddle Remote installs into existing SRAM gravel and road drop-bar systems to provide a paddle dropper lever without requiring a brand new brake set. At first look, it’s undoubtedly innovative, and it reminds me of something Ratio Tech would dream up. In essence, as long as you’re somewhat mechanically inclined, it looks to be an interesting solution for folks looking to add a mechanical dropper lever to their SRAM 11-speed road or gravel setup. Read on for details and an install video.
OneUp claims the Drop Bar Paddle Remote offers minimal lever resistance for a smooth and responsive feel. It’s designed specifically for compatibility with the OneUp V3 Dropper Post, providing a cohesive setup, although I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with other droppers. Either way, the V3 is one of my personal favorites.
The Paddle Remote is designed to fit directly into a SRAM 11-speed hydraulic brake-shift lever, mirroring the look and feel of the derailleur paddle. It provides the same actuation from on the hoods or in the drops, or while braking—enabling riders to lower the saddle while on descents.
OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote Compatibility
Here’s the compatibility list, according to OneUp’s press release:
- SRAM Red 11spd Hydro R
- SRAM Force 11spd Hydro R
- SRAM Rival 11spd Hydro R
- SRAM Apex 11spd Hydro R
- Not compatible with ETap or Apex 12spd
- Not compatible with Shimano
OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote Installation
Installing the OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote is outlined in the video below. According to OneUp, its design allows for quick removal of the dropper post when servicing. The cable clamp is conveniently located in the remote, while the cable end attaches to the dropper post, similar to most mountain bike dropper levers, these days. Unlike many other options, this remote includes a built-in cable tensioner, eliminating the need for an external barrel adjuster, and supports fully internal cable routing. That being said, if cable stretch occurs, the tensioning system is a little tricky to access, as you can see in the video, so I’d probably add a barrel adjuster.
The OneUp Drop Bar Paddle Remote is available to purchase now from your local bike shop or directly from OneUp for $69.99/$95.99CAD/57.99£/63.99€. Details at OneUpComponents.com.
