Following the Otso Hoot Ti’s 2024 release, the Minnesota-based brand has made its fun 140mm hardtail more affordable with a steel version. Check out all the details on the new Otso Hoot below…
Just like its titanium counterpart, the Otso Hoot Steel is a 140mm travel hardtail that the brand says “brings the party to every line on the trail.” The steel frame is made of 4130 chromoly with custom tubing based on frame size. The Hoot Steel has largely the same numbers as the titanium version, though there have been some adjustments to its stack, reach, wheelbase, and other angles in the large and XL sizes. The bike uses a BSA 73mm bottom bracket, ZS44/EC44 headset, 31.6mm seatpost, 180mm native IS mount brake standard, 12 x 148mm boost rear hub spacing, and fully external cable routing.
The Hoot was designed with a 140mm travel suspension fork in mind, but it can also run a 150mm fork without significantly altering the geometry. Tire clearance maxes out at 29” x 2.6”, and the bike features a UDH-compatible dropout rather than the Tuning Chip found on other bikes in the Otso family.
Through its low standover height, the Hoot steel is designed to accommodate the longest dropper post possible. But a challenge that arises with a lower standover height is adding a bottle mount to the seat tube. So, Otso created the “evolved mount” on the Hoot Steel. It allows for maximum dropper post travel while having an option on the seat tube for a second bottle cage or gear mount.
