Portland’s Primos Cycles has just released another budget-friendly bike, adding to its range of sub-$1,000 options. The Primos Pixie is the brand’s first small-wheeled bike, with a front rack, thru-axles, and a Shimano drivetrain. Find details on this new mini velo below…

The Primos Cycles Pixie is the small, Portland-based brand’s first mini velo, and it shares a few similarities with other bikes in their lineup. Launched in the same color as the gravel bike that got them started, the Dame, the new Pixie is another complete bike that aims to offer incredible value for money. The Pixie features modern comforts such as thru-axles, three-pack mounts on the fork blades, flat-mount brakes, and an integrated seatpost to give customers the best of all worlds.

The bike also features a Shimano 1×9 CUES drivetrain, Tektro mechanical disc brakes, Maxxis tires, and an alloy finishing kit. The Pixie can clear a 20 x 2.7″ tire, uses a 27.2mm seatpost (though it lacks dropper routing), a 68mm threaded bottom bracket, and can fit a 42T chainring. Unfortunately, despite the mounts on the fork blades, there is only one bottle position on the inner triangle, as there are no mounts on the seat tube. Primos says you can fit a rear rack, as there are eyelets at either end of the seatstays. The Pixie comes in only one size and two colors, Raven and Ash Grey, and it’s intended to fit anyone from 5’1″ to 5’11” tall.

Somehow, Primos has kept this complete under $1,000, with their modest build starting at just $899. With $50 flat-rate shipping (inside the US), the Pixie, much like many of their other models, is a hard deal to beat. Moreover, the unbranded front rack is a nice addition, making the package even more enticing. Overall, despite some quirks, it’s hard to overlook the Pixie as a budget option for those who find mini velos useful.
