Rapha Announces Bike-specific Explore Sleep System

Over the last few months, Rapha has been teasing bits from its new Explore collection, a line of adventure-focused apparel and accessories. The collection includes the Cargo Bib Shorts, the new Cargo Winter Tights (shown at bottom), and today, Rapha introduced its Explore Down Jacket and Sleeping Bag as a two-part Explore Sleep System.

Explore Down Sleeping Bag

Made specifically for multi-day bike trips, the Sleeping Bag forms half of the sleep system. Although not temperature rated, when used in conjunction with the Explore Down Jacket, the sleeping bag is designed to keep you comfortable in moderate temps; I would expect this to mean above freezing. Below the waist, an insulated construction combines lightweight woven nylon and ethically sourced down with a DWR coating to lock in body heat and offer moisture protection. The thinner upper section is made solely from nylon and is designed to be used with the Down Jacket, forming a protective shell against insects and moisture. The lightweight upper features an adjustable drawcord hood for further protection. A two-sided half-length zipper extends down the side of the bag. An elastic drawcord cinches at the waist to seal against the down jacket and trap body heat. The foot of the bag also has a drawcord and opens fully for warmer temps, or if you wish to “wear” the bag.

The Explore Down Sleeping Bag comes in sizes S/M and M/L. Both filled with 850-fill-power, ethically sourced 90/10 down. The S/M weighs 270g (9.52oz) and will retail for $330 USD (290 EUR).

Explore Down Jacket

The other half of the Explore Sleep System is a packable down jacket with the a fit designed for “exploring on and off the bike.” The jacket is made with lightweight woven nylon and filled with ethically sourced down before being treated with a water-resistant DWR coating for added insulation and protection. The jacket comes in black, navy, and dark green with reflective details on the chest and back. It features elastic openings at the hood and cuffs as well as an elastic waistband which can be adjusted via hidden cinches inside the front pockets. The hood can be adjusted using the drawcord or removed completely.

The Down Jacket uses 850-fill-power down and weighs 238 grams (8.4oz) in size medium. It comes in a range of sizes from XX-small to XX-large and will retail for $295 USD (260 EUR).
