Our Reader’s Rig of the week comes from builder Daren Beenen of Woodpecker Cycle Co., who offers a short and sweet look at the custom “Grocery Shredder” e-bike he built for his partner as an upgrade to their recumbent trike. Check it out here…

Hi, my name is Daren. I am a custom bike frame builder and bikepacker located in Lacey, Washington. I typically like backcountry style riding and going on roads less traveled. I don’t shy away from carrying my bike a bit on “rides.” I have been building bikes for around three years for my company, Woodpecker Cycle Co.
I make a variety of steel bikes, including hardtails, gravel bikes, full-suspensions, and now e-bikes. All of my builds so far have focused on off-road riding and most are used for off-road touring. This bike is my partner Eliza’s bike. They have been riding a recumbent trike for a few years now, and I figured it was time to get them onto something with the Woodpecker name on it.
Eliza has a mobility impairment, so a step through e-bike really helped keep them comfortable on rides. They use it for taking trips to the park, getting groceries, and eventually camping!
