Ride With GPS just announced that its flagship route planner is now available in the Ride With GPS mobile app for iOS and Android. Plus, Bikepacking Collective members get 20% off!

Aside from Google Earth and a few other base maps/apps, we use the Ride With GPS route planner almost exclusively when planning and pre-mapping all of our original bikepacking routes. And, of course, we’re pleased to work with Ride With GPS to display and host GPX data on our worldwide Bikepacking Routes Network, the largest of its kind. So, today we’re excited to announce the company’s latest tool—the Ride With GPS mobile route planner. The new app features a completely new design that takes the core ideas of their best-in-classs web route planner, and adapts them to a mobile device. “We’ve spent 10 years learning what it takes to build the best bike route planner. We knew expectations would be high.” says Zack Ham, Ride with GPS co-founder. Those expectations essentially meant that they had to make the new mobile route planner is fully compatible with the Ride with GPS web-based planner. That includes support for cuesheets, points of interest, interactive elevation profiles, drag-and-drop editing, and climb-aware estimated riding time. Estimated time is personally tailored to each rider based off their riding history. Here’s the full list of features:

  • Tap on map to route to location
  • Search for addresses, businesses, and locations to route to
  • Route to and from current location
  • Real-time, interactive elevation profile
  • Climb-aware estimated riding time, based on your riding history
  • Extended map options: Satellite, terrain, OSM Cycle, OSM Outdoor, ESRI, and more
  • Add points of interest
  • Change route color to distinguish sections

Ride with GPS’s mobile route planner also includes additional “smart” features that simplify tasks that are difficult in other route planners, such as modifying an out-and-back route, changing the start or end of a route, and automatically correcting accidental deviations onto side streets.

“You can now plan, navigate, and share real time progress of your ride, all from the Ride with GPS mobile app.” says Cullen King, Ride with GPS co-founder. “With this release, our app now offers a complete solution for casual and competitive cyclists alike, and we are excited to continue improving our software.”
