Rockgeist just announced a new design for a custom wedge-style frame bag. We had the chance to put one to the test for this first look…

It’s no secret that we love a good wedge-style frame bag. For those unfamiliar, a classic wedge design typically takes up the front of the bike’s triangle and leaves enough room in the back to carry your favorite growler or large water bottle, such as the 32oz Klean Kanteen. Not only does this provide a convenient storage spot for water, it also centers the weight of a large water bottle. In addition, having a little exposed top tube leaves a place to grab for those occasional hike-a-bike portages.

Rockgeist, out of Asheville, NC, just announced a custom Wedge as part of their made to order line of custom frame bags. As with their other frame bag offerings, the Wedge is created using the PhotoFit process, whereby you send a photo of your bike frame with a tape measure next to the top tube, and your frame bag is delivered with a perfect fit. That’s how proprietor Greg Hardy made this one for the large Gorilla Monsoon I’ve been demoing for the last six weeks.

Rockgiest also offers a few features that are optimized for the Wedge, including an external spine pocket, which makes use of the exposed rear panel and serves to store a small hand pump or tent stakes. The pocket on this one was a little too small to fit the larger pumps I had on hand, but it did fit tent stakes. In addition, the bag has a reverse, angled horizontal zipper, that Greg claims maximizes zipper length for easy hand entry and protects the zipper slider from trail dirt. I found it handy to have a separate space for my tool roll and other heavy items. The bag also has a velcro horizontal divider to create two separate compartments.

Like all Rockgeist framebags, these are custom made to fit your inner triangle. There are no stock, generic sizes available. The Wedge is available in both the Mudlust and Fiber Flight frame bag lines. This one is made using X-Pac LiteSkin on the outer panels. In addition, there are options for a flared nose, lace-up top tube, and a bolt-on downtube, like this one has.

The Wedge ranges from $160-225 for X-Pac and Cordura fabrics, and $200+ for FiberFlight options. As tested, this wedge retails for $220 and weighs 276 grams. Check out Rockgeist.com for more info.
