Following the celebrated first edition of the Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive, which was published in 2019 and features a wealth of painstakingly digitized photographs, hand-drawn maps, stories, and other ephemera from the world’s oldest cycling club, a Kickstarter campaign was just launched to fund Rough-Stuff Fellowship Archive Vol. 2: Further Adventures in Rough Stuff.

Since the publication of the first Rough-Stuff Fellowship book, RSF archivist Mark Hudson has received more than 25,000 slides and other materials—more than enough to fill another 200+ pages with inspirational cycling imagery from a bygone era. The upcoming second volume, once again published by Isola Press, will contain imagery from around the British Isles and beyond, including photographs of beach riding in the 1920s, climbing in the Alps in the 50s, chain walks in the 80s, and more. There will be accounts of classic Rough-Stuf routes and rides, such as Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms and the Wayfarer Pass in the Berwyn Mountains in Wales.

Rough-Stuff Fellowship, Further Adventures in Rough Stuff
“Before gravel bikes, before bikepacking, before mountain bikes, the Rough-Stuff Fellowship pioneered riding off the beaten track. Its members took countless photos of their exploits over the moors and mountains of the UK and beyond.”

The campaign has already raised more than £5,000 of its £25,000 goal, which they must reach by April 7th for the project to be funded. Pricing for a softcover copy is £25 via Kickstarter or £28 after. There’s also a limited-edition hardcover version available exclusively for Kickstarter backers for £32. Note that Rough-Stuff Fellowship members can purchase the new book for a reduced rate via the Rough-Stuff Fellowship website.
