Route Werks sent over press materials for a very interesting new Handlebar Bag, which features a unique mounting system and a flip-top “customizable” hardshell lid. Find all the details here…
Based out of of Rhode Island, Route Werks is a new company that’s spent almost two years refining their forthcoming Handlebar Bag, a minimal front bag that’s designed to work on any bike and is loaded with interesting features. The team wanted to create a handlebar bag that addresses some of the frustrations they’ve experienced with other bags on the market. The Route Werks Handlebar Bag launched via Kickstarter on September 22, 2020, and was fully funded in less than six hours. After looking through the media kit they sent us a few days ago, we can see why. Find complete details below.
What makes the Route Werks Handlebar Bag unique is its polycarbonate lid. Not only does the hardshell lid provide one-handed access to interior contents, it has a “customizable” design with a “Tech Mount” that can be used with multiple adapters (Quad Lock, K-edge, and Barfly) to accommodate an array of devices, including a GPS, phone, or a cycling computer. There are also threaded M5 mounting points on either side of the bag to mount lights, bells, or a Route Werks Handlebar Stub to further free up space on the handlebars.
In addition, the Route Werks Handlebar Bag features a unique mounting system. The machined aluminum bike mount allows you to detach the bag with the flip of a lever, and according to Route Werks, provides secure, rattle-free rides. You can also use the included strap to shoulder the bag off the bike.
The bag itself is made of 500D Cordura, with a construction that Route Werks claims is highly water resistant. The interior has about 3.2 liters worth of storage, which is small if you’re relying on a handlebar bag as one of your main storage bags, but could fit nicely into a bikepacking setup when coupled with a front rack or small micro panniers. The bag features two side pockets, an internal compartment with multiple dividers, and a shock cord on top to strap an extra layer.
