Shimano just quietly released updates to their flat pedal lineup, notably the XT, SLX, and Saint pedals. Each have a few new interesting features and were redesigned to be lighter and a little more svelte than their chunky predecessors. If they are as durable as their SPD brethren, they could be a fantastic option for bikepacking and dirt-touring. Shimano XT flat pedal (PD-M8141)

The new DEORE XT flat pedal is perhaps the most compelling out of the three. Positioned for enduro/trail riding the PD-M8141 is significantly lighter than its predecessor (by 78 grams). The new XT flat pedal has a wide 109mm, concave aluminum platform and adjustable pins. Find the full specs from Shimano below.

Shimano SLX flat pedal (PD-GR400)

The SLX version of the flat pedal is also quite interesting as it has a full resin composite pedal body, although it’s not quite as wide as the XT. The PD-GR400 is 139g lighter than the previous SLX-range pedal (PD-GR500), and comes in black, blue, or red.

Shimano Saint flat pedal (PD-M829)

The Saint flat pedal was designed for downhill and aggressive trail riding and features a wide platform with a thin pedal body and an interesting skid plate made from “carbon composite resin.” The Saint pedal has a chromemoly axle with a redesigned bushing construction that adds up to a 156 gram weight savings over the previous PD-MX80 pedal.
