Support trail repair efforts in Western North Carolina or Northern California and you could win one of two custom “Sierra Nevada Trail Chaser” Surly Stragglers with components from PAUL, Industry Nine, White Industries, CampAndGoSlow, King Cage, and DingoBags…

Sierra Nevada Brewing, PAUL Component Engineering, and several other cycling brands are kicking off of a custom bike giveaway dubbed the Sierra Trail Chasers. The program will raffle off two ultra-custom bikes to highlight critical fundraising efforts for two non-profits: Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship in Northern California and Pisgah Area SORBA in Western North Carolina. Both non-profits are working to address damage to trail systems in their areas caused by recent natural disasters of epic proportion. The efforts in Pisgah hit close to home, as I’ve witnessed the severe damage from the recent 100-year flood firsthand.

“This is a critical time to support these trail organizations. Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has significant challenges right now dealing with the effects of recent wildfire activity in their area, and Pisgah Area SORBA is dealing with the aftermath of intense flooding in that area of NC,” and says Ken Grossman, founder and owner of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

The public is invited to enter to win one of the custom bikes, and at the same time may make donations to the non-profit of their choice at either of the following websites or by accessing the QR code displayed at select beer retailers during the program period. The contest runs from September 1st through October 31st.

The Sierra Trail Chaser Bike

PAUL Components took a Surly Straggler and powder-coated it metallic green to emulate a can of a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Paul’s longtime favorite beer. They built it up with custom decals and parts from some of their best-loved American manufacturers and friends:

  • Cranks, chainrings, bottom brackets, and headsets machined by White Industries in Santa Rosa.
  • Custom anodized wheels by Industry Nine in Asheville, North Carolina.
  • Titanium water bottle cages made by King Cage in Durango, Colorado.
  • Stems, seatposts, seat collars, and brakes made by PAUL Component Engineering in Chico, California.
  • The handlebars are wrapped with CampAndGoSlow’s Eastern Rattler handlebar tape.
  • Bags are custom-made by Dingo Bags in Chico. It just so happens the frame bags are the perfect size for a row of beer cans.
