The first product to come out of SILCA’s new 3D printer is the featherweight and ultra-strong Mensola Computer Mount, a top-of-the-line titanium GPS mount that attaches to your stem. Find details and photos here…
SILCA just unveiled their first 3D-printed titanium product, the Mensola Computer Mount. Taking advantage of their new 3D printer’s capabilities and borrowing techniques from aircraft design, they’ve created a 6Al/4V titanium GPS mount that weighs just 35 grams and is around 10 times stronger than similar mounts made from aluminum using traditional CNC methods.
One might reasonably argue that the Mensola is overkill for what it does, though given its claimed durability, it’d likely be the last GPS mount you’ll ever need (of course, it comes with the $175 price tag to match, which includes the mount and two titanium bolts). It attaches directly to your stem’s faceplate, freeing up space for other accessories and straps on your bars and eliminating the need for frustrating rubber O-rings that can often break and leave your computer hanging precariously, but also making it less user-friendly for quickly swapping between bikes.
With their new 3D printer up and running, we expect to see a number of additional items from SILCA before the year is up. SILCA CEO Josh Portner, who has a background in aerospace and automotive engineering, is undoubtedly eager to find out how they can push the bounds of 3D titanium printing, and the Mensola is only the beginning.
The Mensola Computer Mount is available now for $175. Find additional details, a compatibility chart, and a link to purchase one over at SILCA.cc.
