Now in its fifth iteration, the Singular Peregrine is one of the small UK brand’s longest-standing models. With minor updates that enhance its bikepacking capacity and overall prowess, the new Singular Peregrine is a refined version of their fat-tire, do-it-all bike. The Peregrine is one of Singular Cycles’ most recognizable models. With the brand since the very beginning, the release of the MK5 marks just the fifth iteration of this bike across two decades. As Sam Alison, owner and operator of Singular, says, “Changes to the Peregrine don’t come lightly.” The latest version of their randonneuring-inspired silhouette may be subtle, but it is significant for those familiar with the bird-based model. Aside from a new burned-orange color scheme, the MK5 features tubing changes said to improve ride quality and offer more tire clearance at the chainstays.

Perhaps more consequentially, the Peregrine’s smaller sizes have been redesigned to better suit shorter riders. In the M5 design notes, Sam mentions the difficulties of making a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing bike in the mold of the Peregrine. With cast steel lugs requiring significant investment, balancing the classic aesthetic consistent with the frame while ensuring it rides well for those on the shorter end of the spectrum has always been a challenge. To rectify this, Sam states, “For the MK5, the small and medium size frames are built around a shorter 390mm fork (as opposed to the 410 of L & XL frames) and optimized for use with a 650b x 55mm (27.5×2.2”) tyres. This means that the smaller sizes will have improved standover clearance, reduced incidence of toe overlap, and a more proportionate feeling ride. Of course, due to having disc brakes, these frames can run a 700c wheel if desired, but would be limited to a maximum of around 45mm tyre width.”

The new Peregrine also features native 160mm flat-mount rear and 160/180mm front brakes as standard. The lugged rear dropouts from the MK4 are still present, but now have two threaded M5 eyelets for mudguard and rack mounting. There are also small tweaks throughout the frame that ensure cables run more smoothly, tires fit better, and mudguards sit more comfortably. The new MK5 is now available on their site and retails for $1,488 for a frameset. Complete options start at $3,375 and can be customized by contacting Singular.
