Specialized just released its new 2FO Roost lineup including clipless and flat pedal versions that combine a relaxed aesthetic with technical details and new 3rd generation SlipNot rubber soles. Find the details here…

It’s hard to argue whether or not Specialized makes great cycling shoes. The proof is in the pudding. We awarded the 2FO Cliplite (this shoe’s predecessor) with a Gear of the Year Award a few years ago after they lasted longer than almost any other shoes we’ve tried. More recently, we gave both the Rime 2.0 and Recon 2.0 very high marks for their performance and durability. For their latest release, the big S ushered in the new 2FO Roost lineup with what they claim was a “nerd on the inside, party on the outside” design approach. The Specialized 2FO Roost range includes both a Clip and Flat version, each in two color schemes with a new 3rd generation SlipNot rubber sole, a lighter Xpel Airmesh padding, and a relaxed aesthetic featuring a synthetic leather/suede upper. We’re excited to test both of them out. In the meantime, here are a few details.

Specialized 2FO Roost Flat

The most visible differentiator on the new 2FO Roost Flat is a redesigned sole. Specialized claims that the 3rd generation SlipNot rubber is “designed to stick to and hug pedal pins, giving riders a sticky, bounceless feel.” It features a hexagonal lug pattern made to direct pedal pins for a secure “locked-in” feeling and help reduce overall wear off the bike. The Specialized 2FO Roost Flat are available in two colors (Black/Slate or Oak Green/Black) in sizes ranging from 36-49 for $120. Specialized 2FO Roost Clip

The clipless version of the 2FO Roost also has the 3rd gen SlipNot outsole and adds a cleat pocket which Specialized states is roomier than previous models, making it easier to engage and disengage pedals in the technical terrain. Both the Clip and Flat models nixed the traditional foam padding in the upper and replaced it with Xpel Airmesh, a lighter weight, water-repellant material. The Specialized 2FO Roost Clip comes in two colors (Black/Gum and Taupe) for $130 and is available in sizes ranging from 36 to 49.
