Handmade by Prandus Bicycle Company in California, the new Squid Maybe Dead is a 26″ rigid steel all-terrain bicycle with an unexpected mix of specs. Dig into the details here…
Are 26″ bikes dead? Squid Bikes doesn’t think so. The California-based bicycle brand was born after a group of friends started painting their cyclocross bikes to raise eyebrows and have fun. The rest is history. Their latest model is handmade by Prandus Bicycle Company, also based in California, and is a subtle reminder that 26″ bikes are still alive and kicking.
The Squid Maybe Dead is built up around a double-butted steel frame with some truly unexpected details. It’s designed around 26″ wheels with clearance for 2.4″ tires and a 73mm press-fit bottom bracket. The frame has 12mm thru-axles front and back, a 27.2mm seatpost, IS-mount disc brakes, and UDH-style dropouts for the latest SRAM T-type derailleurs. Nothing pairs quite like 26″ wheels and T-type derailleurs!
There are just two standard bottle mounts and no rack mounts or additional fork mounts, but there are some ultra-snazzy brazed-on cable guides to keep everything tidy. Each size has a 71.5° head tube angle, 72.5° seat tube angle, and short 425mm chainstays. Dig into the full geometry chart below.
