Originated by Steve Potts and others back in the late 80s, the RM-2 was the first “dirt drop” style handlebar in production. It was just updated and rereleased as the Steve Potts Original Dirt Drop Bar, a modern version with an updated fit and feel. Find details here…

Back in the late 1980s, WTB founders Steve Potts, Charlie Cunningham, and Mark Slate collaborated with Specialized Bicycles to create the RM-2, a wing-shaped, dirt-drop handlebar that became one of the first production bars in this genre. The RM-2 was successful in terms of its performance but was discontinued because of a lack of adoption. Later, it was sought after by diehards, and many imitations have been developed since. Fast forward more than three decades, and Steve Potts has just redesigned a new “Original” version that gets a few updates to improve placement of modern levers and hand positions for long-ride comfort. The new Steve Potts Original Dirt Drop Bar is made out of aluminum by Nitto in Japan, just like the original RM-2.
