Available in both flat-bar and drop-bar builds, the new Surly Preamble is a light-duty commuter and touring bike that’s optimized for comfort and fit. Find more details, photos, and Surly’s kooky launch video here…

Surly describes the all-new Preamble as an introduction to their pavement line—a distilled Straggler, if you will. It’s a light-duty utility bike that looks ideal for commuting, road touring, and everyday riding. It features a Surly Chromoly Natch steel frame and fork, the same vertical rear dropouts found on the Bridge Club, frame geometry that they say plays well with both flat and drop bars, fender and rack mounts, and tried-and-true QR axles.

The Preamble is compatible with 1x and 2x drivetrains, comes five sizes from XS-XL to fit riders from 5’0” to 6’7”, and the extra-small and small frames have slightly sloped top tubes for more standover room. It has clearance for 650b x 41mm tires (XS–S) and 700c x 41mm tires (M–XL) (with or without fenders), and complete builds start at just $899 USD, making it an excellent option for anyone who is just getting into riding.
